Beechcliffe Park is three hundred metres from the back gate, and you get there without crossing Woodroffe. Manordale Public School sits on the far side of Manordale Park, so most of the walk to the school gate is grass rather than pavement. It runs junior kindergarten to grade 6.

The Nepean Sportsplex is under a kilometre down the road: arenas, pools including the wave pool, a fitness centre, an indoor track and the gymnasiums. For a family with a hockey bag and a swim lesson in the same week, that one building does a lot of work.

The Nepean Centrepointe branch of the Ottawa Public Library is 1.6 km northwest, inside Ben Franklin Place, next door to the Centrepointe Theatre: a library, a theatre and a city service counter at the same address.

Six schools and campuses fall inside two kilometres, across both the public and Catholic boards, plus the Algonquin College campus due north. Attendance boundaries are set by the school boards and do change, so confirm yours before you sign anything.

College Square, where Woodroffe meets Baseline, is where the weekly shop happens: a Loblaws and a Home Depot, an LCBO and a pharmacy, and the usual row of coffee and quick lunch alongside. Thirty-five stores and services in all. Merivale Road, a few minutes east, carries most of the sit-down restaurants.

There is an OC Transpo stop on the Woodroffe Avenue frontage. Woodroffe runs straight north to Baseline Station and the Transitway, which is how the rest of Ottawa is reached without a car, and straight on to the Queensway if you would rather drive.
